Photo editing

I thought the original image was very dark, I would like it to be brighter so that the coverlines and puffs contrast better with the background.

Rough layout of front cover

Here is another layout idea I had which I quickly made in Serif Drawplus. This is an
earlier design as I initially wanted lucas to be on the front cover also, his name is different.
I really liked he layout I did and I think it will help with the final design.

I will not be using this actual image for the front cover

Maslow's theory of needs

Maslow believed that the needs of human beings must have an order of importance, a hierarchy. The bottom of the triangle are things that humans literally need to survive like water and food. the further up the triangle you go, the less you actually need them but the more you want them. You may already have the things at the top like creativity but they are less of a need so you could live without them. This can be associated with media, for example, seeing a posh car in a magazine would encourage self esteem because you might want that, you might set a goal to maybe get that car but you don't need it. it can be used for advertisement.

Billboard Coverspread analysis

I would say I prefer this cover spread to mixmags, there's more going on in this it looks less plain. I like the idea of including the masthead at the top again to remind the target audience what they're reading. the quotes are seen again, this shows ada theory that people will read the quotes first and look at the images first which is why I would include more images and quotes to give an overall summary to the article.

Billboard Contents Analysis

I like how well laid out this content page is however to me its slightly complex, I don't know where to look first. the colour scheme works well with contrasting colours; white and blue. I have noticed some synergy between the two magazines I have analysed and they both have a few photos to look at in the contents page. This includes page numbers on the images. this will be included in my magazine. I think after looking at this id rather base my contents around the idea of mixmag's contents page. I will have at least three images on my contents page not forgetting the contents page and I will include a list of the pages each including subheadings which will be an alternative colour.

Billboard analysis

In almost every Billboard magazine I have seen, the models overlap the masthead. this is a typical feature in a magazine that I must remember to include in mine. This will show that my magazine is popular and it will give it that real magazine look rather than a typical poster that a small child knocked up. its effective it shows that the stars on the front page are the main focus, it says "Look who we've managed to get for our magazine!!!!! buy us  now!!". this feature is also supported by the fact that there is a large cover line in capital letters telling the target audience how important these celebrities are. with my magazine I think I will stick to just having the name of the artist or band so that the target audience actually know who the artist is but I can also advertise the artist with a small subheading under the main cover-line. The magazine follows a clear colour scheme once again, this repetitive feature in nearly every magazine clearly tells me  that I should make my masthead, strapline and cover lines have colour scheme to stick to. one thing I have noticed is that there isn't a puff providing any extra information inside. I noticed this also with mixmag and this could be a usual thing for music magazines however I am still making sure to include a puff of some sort, the cover  seems much more plain without one.

Mixmag coverspread analysis

This page is less busy as the contents and front cover. I think with mine I will make sure to add more images however I do like the layout again, its neat and organised and the information is clear to read. in mine I will also include small quotes from the article and I will highlight them to show the contents of the article so people who want to read it quickly can get the idea of what its about by seeing the quotes. the layout mirrors the layout of a newspaper however the images seem to take charge more by overlapping text, they have designed it so that the text avoids the images which is effective as the picture stands out more.

Mixmag Contents analysis

The Mixmag Contents page is really well organised and has a clear colour scheme of black and white. this contents page really appeals to me and its inspiring me to create ideas with my own contents page for example the idea of having more than one photo being the  main focus of the page, it shows the contents of the magazine without you having to read so it would be worth while having the more important information presented as pictures. I quite like the organisation of the contents, its clear, understandable and I'm really considering setting up my contents in a similar layout. its good how it shows the magazine has different sections like fashion and features. overall this contents page has helped me with may ideas for my own contents page.

Mixmag analysis

I have analysed Mixmag's cover to get a clearer idea of how to design my cover and come up with more ideas. I will analyse more covers to help with the design of my own magazine.

Fresco - my third character

Fresco is one of the world's most successful house artist DJ's who has had countless UK no. 1 singles. He was born in Italy in 1995, he has been described as the new Godfather of House music inspiring millions around the world.

Fresco started off with learning classical music at school with the acoustic guitar and piano. Fresco enjoyed playing these instruments but has never enjoyed the genre of music, he says that House is an escaped from the formality that is expected of him from his family and says he has more freedom to experiment with different styles.

Fresco likes to keep a very formal, fashionable state even on stage he wears a smart shirt. he feels it helps him keep that sense of the classical life he used to live with a mixture of house. All of the riffs and orchestrated pieces that can be heard in his songs have be composed by him. this is why so many people enjoy the sound he has brought to life.

Anonymous - second characters

Anonymous are a new and upcoming house band originating from the UK. The band consists of Three members who's identity remains secret. This isn't unusual as we have seen this from artists like Sia and house artists Daft Punk. we do know the gender however, two males called Franco and Larry. The vocalist for their records is a female called Amelia. this is all they have revealed to the magazine. as youngsters they have grown up listening to Daft Punk and Prodigy and now they are inspired by bands like Clean Bandit and Disclosure
The band are still new and upcoming however they are rising fast with one of their singles debuting in the UK top 40 this week. That's pretty impressive for a band just starting College!
. There has been some news that they will doing a live performance as a support act for Lucas Francois due to a brand new record deal with Chronicle Records ltd. Who Knows maybe Lucas Francois could be the support act for them one day!

The band got together when they were at school, each one loving the same genre of music; House. Franco had a new synthesiser as a gift from his father and Larry ,being the computer genius, collaborated with Franco to create this new, unique sound that nobody has heard before. After making tracks together every night after school they realised that something was missing and they need something or someone new. One day when Franco was running late for his Maths lesson he ran through the music rooms as a shortcut when he was suddenly halted by the sound of an angel singing as he describes it, but it was even better. what he heard was the voice of Amelia. Amelia's father happened to be the assistant director of Chronicle Records ltd. and after sending tracks to major manager Bill Michael, Anonymous was born.
